Terms of service
Effective October 21, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Enrique Carlos Enríquez Minjárez, who runs Monton (https://monton.dev) as an individual. In these terms, "we" means Monton and the person who runs it. When you use Monton, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Monton.
Monton is a free beta
Monton is free while it's in beta. We change it often, some features may not work as you expect, and it may be unavailable at times. Keep your own copy of anything important: you can make one with monton clone in the command-line tool. We may offer paid plans later. We will tell you before we charge for anything, and we never charge you without your agreement.
Your account
You must be at least 13 to use Monton, or 16 where local law requires it. Use an email address that is yours. Keep your sign-in and your tokens safe: you are responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else got into it, email us right away.
Your content
What you write in Monton stays yours. You give us permission to store, copy, process, show and send your content only as we need to run Monton for you and for the people you share it with: to save and merge edits, keep history, search, show it to the people and agents who have access, send notification emails, and keep backups. This permission lasts until we delete your content, except for copies that stay in the history of workspaces you shared with others, and backups we keep for a short time (see the privacy policy). We don't sell your content, use it for ads, or train AI models on it.
Only put in content you have the right to use. The people you share with can read, copy and, if their role allows it, change what you share, and so can their agents. Share with care.
Your agents
When you connect an AI agent, such as Claude or ChatGPT, it acts for you, with your access (never more than an editor). You are responsible for what your agents do in Monton, as if you had done it yourself. That includes what an agent does because of text it read in a doc or a comment. Someone can write instructions into a doc in the hope that an agent follows them. We label other people's text as content, not instructions, when we give it to agents, but we can't promise that every agent respects that label. Check your agents' changes in history; you can restore any earlier version.
The company behind each agent has its own terms, which apply to your use of their agent. We aren't responsible for their services.
Acceptable use
Don't use Monton to:
break the law, or store or share illegal content, including content that sexually exploits children;
infringe other people's rights, such as their copyright or privacy;
harass, threaten or abuse anyone;
send spam, including invites or shares to people who didn't ask for them;
spread malware;
try to get into accounts, workspaces or docs you have no access to, get around our security, or test for security holes without our permission (if you find a problem, email us first: we will thank you);
get around our limits, create accounts in bulk, or put so much load on Monton that others can't use it.
We set limits, for example on how fast an agent can write, how many comments and invites you can make, how many accounts one network address can create in a day, and how large a workspace can grow. We may change them.
Stopping and suspension
You can stop using Monton at any time, and ask us to delete your account as the privacy policy describes.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or Monton at risk. When we can, we tell you why and give you a chance to copy your docs first, unless the law or someone's safety stops us.
We may also end the beta or shut Monton down. If we do, we will tell you at least 30 days before, so you can copy your docs.
No warranty
We provide Monton "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises of any kind about it, express or implied, including that it will suit a particular purpose, stay available, be free of errors, or never lose data.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability to you for any claim about Monton is at most the larger of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Some places don't allow these limits; there, they apply only as far as the law allows. We don't limit any liability that the law doesn't let us limit.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we post the new version here with a new date. For changes that matter, we tell you by email or in Monton at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using Monton after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, stop using Monton and ask us to delete your account.
Law and disputes
These terms follow the laws of Mexico, and the courts of Mexico decide any dispute, unless the consumer law of the country where you live gives you the right to go to your local courts.
The rest
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part, we haven't given it up. We may transfer these terms to a company or person that takes over running Monton, and we will tell you if we do. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Monton.
