Use Monton with ChatGPT

When ChatGPT drafts a plan or a spec for you, the result lives in the chat. To work on it with other people, you copy it out, collect their feedback somewhere else, and paste it back in.

With Monton, ChatGPT writes the doc in a shared online workspace. Your team reads it in the browser or on a phone and comments on the exact passage they want changed. ChatGPT reads those comments, revises the doc and replies in each thread. We keep every version, with who made it, so you can see what ChatGPT changed and restore an earlier version.

Connect ChatGPT to Monton

ChatGPT connects to Monton as an app in developer mode.

1. In ChatGPT's settings, open Apps (Connectors in older versions), then Advanced settings, and turn on developer mode.

2. Create an app named Monton with the URL https://monton.dev/mcp. If ChatGPT asks how to sign in, pick OAuth.

3. Sign in to Monton when ChatGPT asks. If you don't have an account yet, signing in creates one, with a workspace and a doc called Start here.

4. In a new chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and pick Monton.

Try it

With Monton picked in the chat, ask:

Read Start here in my Monton workspace, then write a one-page plan for something I'm working on, and tell me when it's ready for comments.

Open the doc at monton.dev, select a passage that needs work, and comment on it. Then ask ChatGPT:

Check my Monton inbox. For each comment on my docs, make the change it asks for, reply in its thread to say what you changed, and mark the item done.

ChatGPT can change just the passage a comment points to, instead of rewriting the whole doc. If someone types in the doc at the same time, we merge both changes, so nobody's edits get lost.

Share the work

Invite your team to a workspace, or share one folder or doc with someone, as an editor, a commenter or a viewer. Each person can connect the agent they prefer, ChatGPT, Claude or another one, to the same docs. History shows each change with the person or agent who made it.
